Sherman Alexie Project

The latest BFA project is based off of the book "The Absolutely Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie. It's an easy read, and had me laughing throughout the entire book. For our final, we have to design these characters from the book and place them in story moments.

In the book, the main character Junior talked about his grandmother briefly. Due to my grandmother's current health condition, I decided to make this project a little more personal and used her as inspiration for one of my characters. It saddened me to see my grandmother lose the spunk she once had just a few months ago. So I thought it would be fun to use her as my character to keep her spunky spirit alive.

Still a work in progress, but here it is:

I'll always remember your spunky, diva spirit no matter what happens. I love you grandma.

Vikings Project

For our next BFA assignment we get to sculpt our own character design!! I am so excited. I always wanted to sculpt my own character. Hopefully it turns out nice!

Board Track Racing WIP

Here are the latest characters I did for the first BFA project. Still a WIP:

End of the semester!

Some stuff I did on the side when I wasn't doing homework:

I was fortunate enough to be able to revisit my turtle project from Courtney's class as my final for Ariel's class. So here's my final project:

Wondercon 2010

Since I never post any pictures on here, this will be a long picture post. Be warned!

Yesterday I attended Wondercon for the first time ever! It was such an awesome experience and so much fun!!

Here are some photos of the day:
My best buds Wilbur Liang and Mary Shu.
Ran into some of our very own SHM members Nelson Hernandez and Dreamworks storyboard artist Januel Mercado! Always nice to see familiar faces in the crazy crowd. :)

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet one of my favorite artists, Brittney Lee!

She was really nice and took a good share of her time going over my portfolio. She gave me lots of tips to help improve my work despite how hectic it was with her many admirers! She was a sweetheart and was really willing to answer any question anyone had.

My boyfriend knew how much I loved her work, he decided to give me an early anniversary gift by purchasing one of Brittney's original work. I am so lucky to have such a sweet boyfriend!

This is the lovely piece he got for me:
You can view the rest of Brittney's mermaid series that go along with this piece here. She also had other mermaid paintings here.

I also ran into Joe Weatherly!
He said he would be coming to SJSU again this Fall to start up another animal drawing workshop at the zoo. Can't wait!

Last but not least, I got to meet up with another one of my favorite artists, Bobby Chiu!

Bobby was very nice and I was lucky to have him also quickly glance over my portfolio despite all the traffic jams and lineups. He certainly knew his stuff and it didn't take him long before he was able to give me a very honest, straight forward critique on my work.

He gave me great advice as a starting artist and left me with a lot of encouraging words. He told me what professors tell me in school all the time, but it's so nice to hear it from such an inspiring artist who once started off where I was. It's all about dedication and hard work. Bobby told me never to give up, and to never compare my work to anyone else but myself. He also said I should always push myself and strive to improve each day, and to make sure that my work progresses at a certain level within each month.

Bobby also does a lot of interviews online with other artists and includes his own inputs about himself as an artist. Check it out on ChiuStream!

Overall Wondercon was amazing!!! Can't wait to go again next year!

Happy Easter everyone! :)

Bubbles!

Dorky Girl

Just taking a break from school to do my own thing. All the textures were made from brushes, and the swirls were done with the pen tool.

If I had an Avatar...

she would probably look something like this.

Finally got to watch it last night, and simply put, it was amazinggg. Hence why I was inspired to do this painting. :)

Quick study

Loved the new style I'm doing for Ariel's class, so I took a break and did my own character. :)

Master Copy

I had trouble painting for Ariel's class so I decided back to the basics. My first time attempting a master copy. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun.
