The Big Friendly Giant Project

These are my finished parts for my group's BFG project. We were assigned as a group to base our project off of Roald Dahl's 'BFG' book. Our group decided to go towards a 2D style and used flat painting, texture, and line to stay true to the children's book style. It was challenging, but a lot of fun and I learned a lot. I look forward to doing a similar style to this again. So proud that my group and I were able to pull everything together in the end! Thanks to my group members for a great experience: Katie Corna, Emily Kruger, Vu Mai, and Rebbaz Royee.

Harrison Bergeron Character Designs

If you haven't read the Harrison Bergeron story yet, you should! It's a very interesting story about social equality. Anyway, here are character designs and color comps I did through my ideations based on the story. I had trouble rendering it the first time, so I am going to redo the whole thing later. Expect more revisions soon. Next week we are now moving on to the environment for our characters.

Ideations

Here are some ideations for the first project of the semester:

Vis Dev

Here are some Vis Dev work from last semester:
Chimney Sweeper

Jack the Ripper

This was my favorite and Final Project. We had to pick a nursery rhyme and change it to modern times and design our own characters and story moment. I chose the "Little Bo Peep" nursery rhyme. I wanted to play around with the Asian theme for costumes so I chose to make the girl Japanese. Her name is Hoshiko, which means "turtle child" in Japanese. In Japan, the turtle is a symbol of longevity. Instead of sheeps I used baby sea turtles. Hoshiko has a homing beacon on her bamboo stick as well as the sea turtles to track them down at night. She cares and nurtures for the baby sea turtles as a favor for the giant sea turtle. This giant sea turtle carries a magical city on its back underwater. In return, the giant sea turtle promises Hoshiko access to this city in her afterlife.

Enjoy. Crits are always welcomed.

Treehouse Work in Progress

These are all still a work in progress. We have until Thursday to revise them as best as we can. I kept some of my dark values slightly lighter on purpose to achieve the correct values for printing. Any crits or comments would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Treehouse Ideations

Some ideations for the latest project. Thanks to Jake's wonderful advice, I've been having fun playing around with the shapes. Still working around more ideas.

Signs

Having fun with photoshop again. Still have lots to learn, hoping to practice more soon.

What's in the box?

First time drawing out the storyboards on my new tablet. I wish I had gotten my tablet sooner to practice more. I'll post my other storyboards when I revise and color them.

1950's Kitchen

My first time painting in photoshop! Thanks to Steph for showing me all these great and useful tips. :) I had so much fun finally putting my tablet to good use. Going to go back to the first one and make clear hard edges, make things more sharp, push the contrast, and change the chairs. Never really liked the chairs in the first place, they were such a pain to paint. If I have time, I'd like to do color comps for the first one too.

Crits and comments are welcomed.

Kitchen

Telephone Poles

These took a while to do, but they were actually quite fun. Who knew you could get so much variety out of something so simple? Definitely something I'd like to do again another time.
