Magazine Project
A classmate of mine really encouraged me to update more often, despite how I feel about my work. :) When finals are over, I'll try to scan more stuff. For now, here's something I did this week:

This was a final project I did for Barron's class. We had to take a short story from a reading Barron gave us and interpret the story in our own way. Then we had to create a spread of our idea and use all or some of the text. It was a lot of fun! Thanks to Laura for letting me borrow her tablet and to Amy and Steph for helping me tweak things. :)

Abortion: Where do you stand?
Long post, for my long absence. I've been wanting to post things up, but I think I'm far more critical of myself than my peers and always end up thinking nothing's worthy to put up. Still no excuse, but I finally have something I actually want to show.
We had an assignment that was given to us by Barron where we only had one class session to complete it. We had to pick a topic based on either the elections of 2008 or the media and take a pro/con side to it. Whatever side we chose, we had to stand 100% for it with no grey areas in between.

I am strongly against abortions for my own personal reasons that I won't get into.
I wanted to be fair and asked several classmates on their opinion of abortions, and it was interesting to hear both sides of the story. Many people were more concerned about women having the right to choose due to rape or potential health problems with the mother or child, and the safety of a girl trying to perform an abortion illegally. But statistics show that about only 5% of abortions are performed due to rape victims or health problems. That means the other 95% is due to women making mistakes or the child is simply unwanted.

When I asked my classmates if any of them knew how abortion procedures were done, many of them had no clue. Some options of abortions are: inducing the baby with drugs, sucking the baby out with a suction tool, and injecting salt poison into the baby. There are several difference approaches to abortion, but the main one that struck me the most is partial abortion. This type of abortion is usually done within the 2nd or 3rd trimester.
Here are visual images and descriptions of how the procedure is done:

After resarching a lot, I wanted to do a piece that showed the goriness of the after effects of abortion. But several classmates warned me that abortion is not a light subject to begin with, and if I wanted people to approach my piece, I would have to do something less graphic to avoid scaring people off.

Within the 3 hours, here's what I came up with:

Barron encourages us to use photos and enhance it with our own illustrations. So I took a photo of the partial abortion procedure and added it to my piece because I knew there was no way I could draw it out and render the image to my satisfaction within the given time. Not my best work, but I am pretty content with the overall message. With more time I definitely would have worked on the values of my flesh and text. Even if I didn't change anyone's mind about abortion, I hope I at least got people to reconsider it.

Three Eggs
All of my Saturday was spent painting.. for a good 10 hours or so. Tomorrow will be animating. I miss having free weekends.
Here's how far I got with my eggs so far:
Eggs blocked in.

Slowly rendering it... I somehow made the colors too muddy looking because I was still working with the limited palette.

What I finished today. Colors look better, but my blending sucks. That's all for tonight, but I still have so much more to do. :(
Good night.
Good night.
Before and After
Last weekend my silly buddies Michael and Henry decided to be nosy and go through my folders on my laptop. They found some drawings I had saved from 28 that I didn't even know I had. I have to say, it was quite... sad. After taking Sheldon for 3 semesters, 2 bootcamps, and endless figure drawing sessions, here are my before and after figure drawings:

The first one was done in one minute, the second one was done in 5 minutes.
It's actually pretty amusing to look back at. It's proof that anything can be taught and learned with the right training and the amount of time you put in to draw.
